iaS Vision
Mission
iaS exists to raise awareness of the full spectrum of existing and potential harms from AI, inform mitigation priorities through ongoing discourse, and support the realization of effective solutions across the entire Spanish-speaking world, and it does so entirely in Spanish. We address the full range of AI safety concerns, from near-term harms like deepfakes, misinformation and the algorithmic manipulation of mental health, to long-term risks such as the loss of meaningful human control over increasingly capable AI systems, and everything in between.
The challenge
Spanish is spoken by 650 million people, 520 million of them as a native language, and it is an official language in Europe, in the Americas and in Africa, where Equatorial Guinea is the only country that has it as an official language; yet the conversation, training and resources on AI safety are produced mostly in English. As AI systems transform everything around us, the risks grow in the same proportion; this is a monumental transition, and it is in our hands whether it is positive or negative, fair or unfair.
AI safety initiatives in Spanish are still few and, for the most part, work separately, so that many talented people who care about these issues do not find a clear path between curiosity and a meaningful contribution in their own language. We believe this language gap is not a matter of representation but a safety failure that can be measured, because AI systems do not behave the same way in every language.
iaS was born to close that gap.
Who we are
Inteligencia Artificial Segura (iaS) is an AI safety organization that operates entirely in Spanish, based in Madrid and reaching the whole Spanish-speaking world. It works as a virtual hub and, since February 2026, has organized online seminars and a first in-person meetup in Madrid together with BlueDot Impact, with more than 400 people registered for at least one of its events, in addition to publishing content in its newsletter, on YouTube, on Instagram and on LinkedIn.
iaS runs with a team of volunteers and has the mentorship of people from other AI safety organizations; it is building a network of local chapters, with a first chapter in Valencia, united under one brand, one mission and a centralized infrastructure. This structure is designed to grow without friction, from a few chapters to many more.
Our vision
We imagine a Spanish-speaking world where AI safety is not a niche concern, but a recognized priority in universities, in boardrooms, in governments and in public conversation, and where language is not a barrier.
In concrete terms, we see the following:
- A growing body of research, evaluations, translations and technical resources in Spanish.
- Hundreds of people per year completing AI safety courses in several countries.
- Large international events, such as conferences, hackathons and expert seminars, alongside accessible local gatherings that welcome first-timers.
- A professional content operation producing high-quality material in Spanish, both for the public and for those who develop and regulate AI.
- Thriving local chapters across the Spanish-speaking world, each with dozens or hundreds of active people.
- A talent pipeline that reliably takes people from initial curiosity to positions of influence in public bodies and technology policy, frontier AI labs, government advisory roles, academia and beyond.
All with a single goal: to ensure that the development and integration of AI truly benefit all of humanity.
Strategic framework: four pillars
iaS fulfils its mission through four integrated pillars that, together, take people from first contact to deep involvement.
Education. iaS offers courses and discussion groups on AI safety in Spanish; education is the main gateway to the iaS funnel.
Events. iaS organizes online seminars twice a month, on the first and third Wednesday, and aims to add in-person meetups, hackathons and large international events; events attract new people and strengthen the involvement of those already taking part.
Content and outreach. iaS helps shape the narrative on AI safety in Spanish through the newsletter Semana de la Seguridad de la IA, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn and other channels; in the short term, this channels interested people toward our entry points and, over time, we aim to turn it into a fuller media presence.
Resources and research in Spanish. iaS builds the missing infrastructure for working in Spanish, with a bilingual glossary of 265 entries, translations of reference documents and a technical evidence base on how models behave in our language; at scale, we aim for it to operate as a structured research and evaluation program spanning technical safety, governance and policy analysis.
The iaS funnel
iaS offers a structured path from first contact to professional contribution, with clear steps and support at every stage.

iaS focuses mainly on levels 0 to 3, and offers less support for levels 4 and 5, for example through recommendation letters or by introducing people to one another. Our funnel has two critical transitions where people are most likely to disengage:
- From level 0 to 1: getting someone who is unfamiliar with AI safety to engage for the first time, where events, social media and word of mouth matter most.
- From level 2 to 3: getting someone who has already learned about AI safety to make a meaningful contribution, and here structured projects and mentorship are essential.
The four pillars of iaS directly address both: Content and Events lower the barrier to entry, Education builds the foundation, and Resources and research and the structured programs support deep contributions.
A journey through the funnel
Consider an illustrative case: Valeria, a 22-year-old law student in Bogotá. She sees a LinkedIn post go by about the upcoming iaS introductory course on AI safety and, having recently read Nexus by Yuval Noah Harari, she is curious and signs up.
She completes the course, attends a few seminars and earns her certificate; for a while, her internship keeps her busy and she takes part little, but a semester later a class assignment lets her focus on AI, she chooses it and feels more confident thanks to the iaS course. She then discovers a new project evaluating models in Spanish, joins a team of three people and they publish their work a few months later.
That experience awakens a bigger ambition in her: she explores opportunities in AI policy and sets her sights on the body that oversees AI in her country, and thanks to her demonstrated experience and a recommendation letter, soon afterwards she is part of the team working on its regulation.
Every pillar, every team member and every chapter helps to widen, strengthen and move people forward along this path. That said, the example above is that of one person going through the iaS funnel from level 0 to level 5, and two important clarifications are in order. First, iaS focuses mainly on levels 0 to 3; for now we can offer less support for taking people from levels 3 to 5, and we think it important to be as transparent as possible about this to avoid confusion. Second, we firmly believe that those who end up at an earlier stage of the iaS funnel add value, because one of the most important aspects of making the development and integration of AI go well is that society as a whole is adequately literate in AI and its safety, which is in itself a significant result and deserves to be mentioned explicitly.
A network across the Spanish-speaking world
The chapter model is the vehicle through which our vision scales. A strong central identity provides brand, management infrastructure, shared resources and operating guides, while local chapters carry out their own activities and establish their own partnerships, with the decisive advantage that they never have to start from scratch.
A new chapter does not need to build its own infrastructure or develop materials from the beginning, because it adopts the iaS brand and starts with what has already been built.
This balance between local freedom and a shared framework is what allows iaS to scale without losing the grassroots energy that makes local groups thrive. Each new chapter extends the reach of iaS, strengthens the brand and shows that the model is scalable.
We collaborate with the hubs in Mexico and Colombia, we keep in touch with the one in Argentina, and we want to help countries that do not yet have their own to be able to open one.
Looking ahead
iaS is at the beginning of its journey, but it rests on a base that has already been built: since February 2026 it has held regular events with more than 400 people registered, with an average rating of 4.63 out of 5 across 51 ratings from satisfaction surveys, and it has developed a bilingual glossary and a team of volunteers.
The Spanish-speaking world adds up to hundreds of millions of speakers and there is no reason why AI safety should not have a thriving, authoritative and impactful movement in Spanish.
iaS wants to be that movement.
