The AI Safety Ecosystem in Latin America

What is happening in the AI safety field across Latin America? Much more than you might think.
Janeth Valdivia, coordinator of AI Safety Mexico, shares in this talk a deep mapping of the discipline's status in the region: which local communities are leading growth, what high-impact projects are being built, and how to bridge Spanish-speaking efforts across both sides of the Atlantic.
Among the most prominent initiatives, she highlights VIGÍA, a platform designed for monitoring Mexico's AI regulatory ecosystem. This session offers an essential perspective to understand the strategic role and unique voice that the Spanish-speaking community holds in the global AI governance debate.
